Jiangsu took the second place in China only after Beijing with 543 academic subjects recognized on a list released by Shanghai Ranking, an organization dedicating to research on higher education intelligence and consultation, on October 25.
The ranking of China’s best academic subjects named 4,992 winners from 486 universities across the country. Thirty-one subjects in Jiangsu’s universities were the best, the second or top 2% in the country. The number of Jiangsu’s academic subjects that landed in the country’s top 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% category was 215, 333, 441 and 543 respectively.
Nanjing University ranked 10th nationwide with 45 subjects on the list, followed by Soochow University (43), Southeast University (40) and Nanjing Normal University (32) in the province.
The recognition showed achievements made in Jiangsu’s universities. The province has strengthened efforts to improve the quality of academic subjects since 2010 and has invested over 7 billion yuan for the initiative.
